Despite the hours of standing and listening to many amazing speakers, I clearly felt that Prof Bond's speech was a stand out. It was so important to hear a leader of the black community saying the things he said.
As he left, I got to shake his hand and thank him for his inspiring words.
As for Lady Gaga, I freaking bow down. She's so much more than yet another disposable pop singer. In some respects, she's Madonna 2.0. But as an activist and spokesperson for a younger generation, I think she's terrific!

I posted not so much about the speech but about the rxn to it and to Obama more generally. I also offered some unsolicited advice. It's called "On and On and On" over at http://wordinedgewise.org
I'd be interested in reactions to it.

Thank you for posting Professor Bond's speech...if I saw one more post on what Lady Gaga had to say versus this eloquent demand for equality, my head might have exploded. Professor Bond is amazing.

I took a class on the History of the Civil Rights Movement from Prof. Bond -- he's the bomb. (Also wrote one of my favorite college papers in that class, about how the advent of TV affected the civil rights movement.)

Am looking forward to your thoughts on Aravosis's apparent belief that the White House is a person who can have dinner. ("I wonder how the Human Rights Campaign is going to explain how the White House just knifed our community less than 24 hours after he went to their dinner and claimed he was our friend.")
