The hearings for Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama’s nominee to take Justice Souter’s seat on the Suprme Court, begin at 10 a.m. Monday. SCOTUSblog will, of course, have some of the best coverage around, and if anything blows up, I’d direct my attention there immediately.
The New York Times offered a “primer” on the hearings and reported today that Republican senators plan to question Sotomayor’s “impartiality.” The Washington Post is over the hearings altogether, noting in its Monday story that “Hearings Not Just About Sotomayor.”
The nomination has been a bit of a let-down for conservatives who wanted a big fight. The remaining excitement, at this point, is the characters on the questioning end, from Sen. Sessions’s role heading up the Republican opposition to the arrival of Sen. Franken on the Dem bench. As for Sotomayor, absent a truly strange development, the next big excitement for her will be when she joins in the fray at One First Street.
