N.H. Senate: A.G. Ayotte Resigning to Consider Run

New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte — one of the two most impressive Republican AGs*, in my opinion — has announced, per the Nashua Telegraph, that she will be resigning on July 17 to consider a run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Judd Gregg.  This is big news.  Ayotte always impressed me, both for her moderate positioning and her office’s smart work.  This could not be happy-making for U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes, the announced Democrat in the race.

* = The other, if you care, is Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, running for the Senate against incumbent GOP Sen. Bob Bennett.
