Ill. AG Madigan, Up to Bat

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has a Very. Big. Day. tomorrow.

This report comes from Lynn Sweet, at the Chicago Sun-Times:

WASHINGTON–Whatever it is that Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan wants to do next — run for governor, the Senate, or stay put — she steps up to a bigger league Monday at a press conference here with Obama administration heavyweights dealing with mortgage scams. . . . .

Madigan will appear with Timothy F. Geithner, Secretary, Department of the Treasury; Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General, Department of Justice; Shaun Donovan, Secretary, Department of Housing and Urban Development; and Jon Leibowitz, Chairman, Federal Trade Commission.

Madigan is politically well-connected in Illinois — her father is the speaker of the state House.  She aggressively acted to do what she could (as it turned out, not much) to get rid of former Gov. Rod Bagojevich.  She quickly pressed the Obama Administration to respect state authority to investigate civil-rights wrongdoing at nationally chartered banks.

Madigan is a woman on the move, and this — a day in D.C. with several Cabinet members at a news conference about foreclosure rescue scams — is her first real time on the national stage.  Don’t go all Jindal on us.
